Can insomnia or lack of sleep make it difficult to get an erection?

I am an 18 year old male. I just recently developed a problem with getting erections I was fine for a while when I got normal amounts of sleep, but as of late my insomnia seems to have kicked in and I can barely sleep. I find it somewhat difficult to get fully aroused and to hold an erection. It just recently happened I am thinking the is the cause. thank you in advance to any help and feedback it is all greatly appreciated =)!

Drinking and smoking pot will cause this problem. I don’t think being tired would but I’m not sure.

Take some Tylenol PM 30 minutes before bed. It’ll help you get some much needed sleep.

  3. Sleep Doctor

Although it is not high on the list of complications of insomnia, it is definitely a possibility that insomnia is causing erection issues…..especially if they both occurred at the same time…..of course the flip side is also possible…that there is something else that is causing insomnia AND erection difficulties…like other medical problems.

If this has been going on for more than 2 weeks, I would recommend that you see your primary care doc. If this has been going on for a day or two, then you might be able to wait and see.

    Good luck.
