nope, i have insomnia, there is no unmedicated way of getting to sleep. People will say to be more active in your day, wake up earlier, but i tried and still when it gets to be around one or two in the morning i am completely awake. Sorry to disappoint :(

I think of a category of something and then try to come up with something that fits that category that begins with each letter of the alphabet. Such as girls names, boys names, cars, movies, stores, songs, musical groups, etc. That works like a charm for me. I tend to get stuck on a letter and always fall asleep in the middle of thinking. Good luck!!!

relax yourself, try to empty your mind. when you can’t sleep at night, don’t force yourself to sleep, try some light activies that can lead you to a feeling of sleepy but not stress. you regularly drink some flower tea to make your mind calm and good sleep, like lavender.

There’s a bunch of ways. This one worked best for me.

Throw off your normal sleep cycle but staying up all night instead of going to sleep. Then stay up the next day until it’s your bedtime. If you do this right, you’ll be too tired to stay up due to your lack of sleep.

Try drinking energy drinks to help keep yourslelf up during the day.

If you do this right, you’ll only have to do it once.

Try to keep physically busy during the day. Get out and walk a lot and get into an exercise routine but not before bedtime. Also, avoid watching television before bedtime as it has so many upsetting shows.

My two cents. Of course, your doctor can tell you better.

Good sleep hygiene and a sleep diary:
Stay away from things like caffeine that can keep you awake. Check your over the counter medicine and foods as some of them may contain caffeine. Try to keep your sleep-wake cycles constant. Plan to go to sleep and wake up at the same times each day. Use your bedroom only for sleep and activities typically done in bed. Don’t work or watch tv in the bedroom. If you can’t fall asleep, leave the bedroom and go do something else relaxing until you feel tired again before returning to the bedroom. Keep your bedroom at a comfortable but cool temperature. Keep yourself active during the day and don’t take naps. Don’t exercise or take baths right before bedtime as these activities can keep you awake. Use the last hour or so before bedtime for only relaxing activities, no strenuous thought or work. Don’t eat immediately before bed as this could cause heartburn, but also don’t go to bed hungry. Lose weight if you’re obese. If you’re stressed, learn relaxation techniques. If your depressed, seek help. Insomnia is a symptom of depression. Keep a diary of your sleep habbits.

    Medical advice:
If nothing works, see a doctor. There are many medical reasons why you might not be sleeping well – obstructive sleep apnea, restless legs, depression, anxiety. There are many new medications and non drug therapies that are available and might help.

Lorna Vanderhaeghe has a product called ‘SleepSense’ Take a couple of these about half an hour before you go to bed and I guarantee you will fall asleep. They are not addictive and if you have been taking sleeping pills then you will not have the withdrawal symptoms. Go to her web site or to the nearest health food store.
