This video clip documents some new 'Orbinated' parts for the Periphery tune "Insomnia" (www.myspace.com ). The execution isn't as accurate as I'd like it to be, but it's getting there! If the song isn't posted on the myspace head on over to www.soundclick.com to take an audial gander. Anyway, the first half is a fill-in that begins around 2:15 and launches back into the main riff. I demonstrate this at half tempo (73 BPM) and performance tempo (146 BPM). The second half is the big outro riff. It sounds as if the tune slows down, but it's actually just a metric modulation; the quarter note pulse changes to a half note triplet pulse. I now highlight the quarter notes by 'chicking' the right-side pedal hi-hat cymbal. I also added some ghost notes, changed the fill-ins from 3:42 to 3:52 and revealed the true tempo on the chinese cymbal at the very end. Check out the transcription! s26.photobucket.com I plan on this being my final 'non-close-mic'ed' clip as I loathe the sound quality, heh. Also of interest to some is that I am available for session work. Please check the corresponding blog at www.myspace.com for examples of my playing and information pertaining to contacting me. Thank you for your time!

he dont like crossing his arms. i couldint play like that it requires being able to play lefty and righty. cant do it. so id say its pretty cool!
pretty creative stuff
the cymbals are centered around each tom. if it were in front it would mean reaching away from them.
If you haven’t noticed…it’s symmetrical. He is an extremely ambidextrous player, and the symmetrical set-up lends itself to his playing style. When you can play it on your ‘normal’ set-up, whatever that means, then go ahead and post it.
why not put the other floor infront of snare?? soo much easier
he has his toms like that so he can fit his 2hats and double pedal around his kit
LOL what is the point in having your toms like that ?? no advantage whatsoever
yea!
if you read the description that’s what it is
perhaps sounds like its tleast similiar
i think its the same thing he plays in the beginning just faster
I’m pretty sure Morpheus programmed him to do that.
whats the fill you do at :25 ?
i hella wanna learn that
Hey can you record yourself playing ‘ow my feelings”? I know it may be a lot to ask but i wanted to try out for periphery and i need some help with that song.
your limb independancy from 1:06 on is absolutely amazing.
Pearl Eliminators with the felt straps and 20″ kicks. Thank you!

cant wait for the full length :)
all the best
cheers, ollie xx
your the most creative n whack drummer ever .. Kudos man !!
Good stuff! My limbs have become quite independent as well. :) Polyrhythms are fun. I should put up some videos in good fun competition. ;D
That’s absolutely correct! If I solo’ed the right foot and right hand it would be a 4 against 3 PR.
Thank you kindly! Please check out the transcription, I couldn’t demystify any further :)
:38 is so badass
so hard to do
Hey travis I got some more MM questions for you so I can try to grasp the concept more. At 0:39 on your right side you are playing a 4/3 polyrhythm correct? With your pedal foot playing the quarter and your hand playing the triplet right?
May i ask… wtf it is you did at 0.26 ! Thats a dope fill : p
